In 1996, Dr. W. Wayne Lautt—Professor Emeritus, Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Manitoba—announced his remarkable discovery of a previously unidentified hormone: hepatic insulin-sensitizing substance (HISS).

This hormone, produced by the liver, is understood to be the missing link in science’s complete understanding of metabolic dysfunction, nutrient partitioning, and type 2 diabetes.
